Gresini Racing has released an official update regarding Alex Marquez following the frightening accident that occurred during the 2026 Catalan Grand Prix in Barcelona.

The Spanish MotoGP rider was involved in a violent high-speed collision during the main race at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya after Pedro Acosta’s KTM suddenly lost pace on the straight. Riding closely behind, Marquez had little time to react and crashed heavily into the rear of Acosta’s motorcycle. The dramatic incident immediately forced race officials to stop the event with a red flag. 

Following the accident, Marquez was taken to a nearby hospital for medical examinations and treatment. Gresini Racing later confirmed that the rider remained conscious and stable after the crash, easing concerns among MotoGP fans worldwide. 

According to updates from the team, Alex Marquez suffered injuries to his collarbone and neck area. Medical evaluations revealed a marginal fracture around the C7 vertebra as well as a broken right clavicle that required surgical stabilization. Doctors planned immediate surgery to prevent further complications and support his recovery process. 

Despite the severity of the accident, early reports from medical staff were encouraging. Marquez reportedly communicated with team members after the incident and thanked supporters for their messages through social media updates. 

The crash became one of the defining moments of the Catalunya MotoGP weekend, which was interrupted twice due to major accidents involving several riders. Debris from Marquez’s shattered Ducati scattered across the circuit, while medical teams reacted rapidly to secure the track and assist the injured competitors. 

Before the accident, Marquez had shown excellent pace throughout the weekend and even captured victory in the Sprint Race one day earlier after a close battle against Pedro Acosta. His strong performances highlighted the competitiveness of the Gresini Ducati package during the Barcelona round. 

MotoGP fans and fellow riders have since expressed support for Marquez as he begins his recovery. Gresini Racing is expected to provide additional medical updates in the coming days regarding his condition and possible return timeline.
