Gresini Racing rider Alex Marquez has successfully completed surgery after suffering serious injuries during the dramatic 2026 Catalan Grand Prix in Barcelona.

The Spanish MotoGP star underwent an operation on his fractured right collarbone after the violent accident that forced race officials to suspend the Catalunya race with a red flag. Medical teams confirmed the procedure was completed successfully, and Marquez was later cleared to travel back to Madrid to continue his rehabilitation process.

The frightening incident happened while Marquez was battling near the front of the field alongside Pedro Acosta. During lap 12, Acosta’s KTM suddenly slowed because of a technical problem, leaving Marquez with almost no time to react. The Gresini Ducati rider collided heavily with the rear of Acosta’s motorcycle before being thrown off his bike at high speed.

The crash immediately triggered major concern throughout the MotoGP paddock. Debris scattered across the circuit as race marshals and medical personnel rushed to assist the injured rider. Marquez remained conscious after the impact and was transported to a Barcelona hospital for urgent medical examinations.

Further scans revealed that Marquez suffered a fracture to his right clavicle along with a minor injury around the C7 vertebra in his neck. Doctors decided surgery was necessary to stabilize the collarbone and reduce the risk of complications during recovery.

Fortunately, post-operation reports brought encouraging news for fans and the Gresini Racing team. According to medical updates, the surgery was successful, and Marquez showed positive signs during the early stages of recovery. The Spaniard is now expected to continue treatment and rehabilitation from Madrid under specialist supervision.

The Catalunya MotoGP weekend became one of the most chaotic events of the season, featuring multiple red flags and several major crashes involving top riders including Johann Zarco and Francesco Bagnaia. Despite the frightening scenes, updates on Marquez’s condition have provided relief across the MotoGP community.
