Brembo, supplier of exclusive braking systems for MotoGP, has now designed and launched the latest generation of brake calipers for the 2025 season. As the main supplier in the world's premier class of motorbike racing, Brembo has a central role in improving safety and performance on the circuit. In the 2025 racing season, all eleven MotoGP teams, which include 22 regular riders along with test bikes, will be equipped with the latest Brembo brake calipers. The development of these calipers comes in response to the increasing demand for braking systems that can withstand the most extreme racing conditions.
As a leader in the motorcycle brake industry, Brembo has built a strong reputation in MotoGP, making the Italian brand the only supplier in the paddock. With their components now becoming standard, competitors such as Nissin have been forced to abandon competition in this arena. Brembo's dedication to racing is evident in the technical support provided in each series, with their engineers active in the paddock, working to ensure optimal performance of braking components.
Over time, the development of racing technology in MotoGP has had a major influence on the performance of the brake system. In addition to improvements in engine power and motor performance, more sophisticated aerodynamic designs also have a major impact on braking. This happens because of the downward thrust (downforce) resulting from the motorbike's aerodynamics, which plays a big role in stability when braking at high speeds. Therefore, the MotoGP braking system must now be stronger to compensate for this pressure, especially on demanding race tracks such as the Red Bull Ring in Austria or Motegi in Japan.
To ensure maximum performance on these difficult tracks, in recent years Brembo has focused on improving the brake system as a whole, such as by introducing new dimensions to the disc brake. The main challenge in dealing with high-speed circuits is reducing excess heat which can hamper brake performance. Even with various existing improvements, the brake system is still at risk of reaching its performance limits, especially in extreme hot weather conditions. Therefore, Brembo has decided that new innovations for next season are a must. The latest MotoGP brake system, which was introduced at the EICMA event in Milan, is designed to meet the demands of racers in the 2025 season by featuring more sophisticated and heat-resistant calipers.
Even though this latest product will be available from 2025, teams still have the option to continue using the GP4 type, the caliper they have been using since 2020. Brembo emphasized that the main focus in developing this new caliper was on improving brake flow performance and the system's resistance to extreme heat. . Brembo made various changes to the caliper geometry and widened the installation distance between components by adding 22 mm between the motorbike fork and the screw connection.
The latest innovations implemented in these calipers include a larger brake lining design, which is resistant to high temperatures to ensure consistent braking in extreme racing conditions. This caliper is also equipped with an enlarged braking surface area, as well as optimized contact pressure to produce stronger braking performance and be able to dissipate heat more efficiently. The main aim of this innovation is to reduce the risk of overheating, increase component durability and ensure that the brakes can function optimally throughout the race.
Brembo also introduced several changes in the maintenance aspect. The position of the bleed valve on this caliper is arranged in such a way that the maintenance and brake fluid replacement process can be carried out more easily and safely by the technician. In terms of overall structure, the new caliper is slightly larger and heavier, increasing by around 25 grams compared to the previous type. However, Brembo ensures that the force required to pull the brake lever will be reduced by 0.4 kg, which of course makes braking feel lighter for the racer.
After the 2024 MotoGP ends, Brembo plans to start testing this caliper at the official test session which will be held on Tuesday after the final series in Barcelona. This new brake device from Brembo will be introduced to teams and racers who will test the performance and durability of the calipers in racing situations. With their commitment to developing superior products, Brembo remains the first choice in MotoGP in providing reliable braking technology for every rider and racing team.
