Buriram, Thailand to Serve as the Opening Round for MotoGP in 2025 and 2026.
MotoGP has just announced that the Thailand Grand Prix will be the opening race for the 2025 and 2026 seasons. The Chang International Circuit in Buriram will host the event from February 28 to March 2, 2025 (dates are provisional). This will be the first time in over 25 years that the MotoGP season opener will be held in a Southeast Asian country.
Thailand is a major market for MotoGP, its manufacturers, and partners, with an enthusiastic fan base and millions of motorcycles on the roads. The Thailand GP was first held in 2018 and, to date, has hosted four races, attracting over 800,000 spectators to Buriram. Fans will now witness history as the season begins in Thailand for the first time.
Gongsak Yodmani, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, stated, “One of the exciting aspects of the 2025 season is the significant changes among teams. This will undoubtedly capture the attention of MotoGP fans worldwide as they eagerly anticipate seeing top riders on their new bikes at the Chang International Circuit for the first time.”
Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports, also expressed his enthusiasm about the appointment of the Thailand GP as the MotoGP season opener for 2025 and 2026. “We are thrilled to announce that the Thailand Grand Prix in Buriram will be the opening event for the next two years. Southeast Asia is a key market for this sport, as well as for our manufacturers and partners. Thailand plays a crucial role, and the enthusiasm of the fans in Buriram is evident every year. We are confident they will create an incredible atmosphere for the season’s first event.”
